Durham County Record Office: the official archive service for County Durham and Darlington

Church Registers

Search for church registers of baptism, marriage and burial (all denominations) in our archive collections. Find out what registers we keep and their covering dates. We preserve the registers of over a thousand churches and chapels, past and present. Check for any name indexes in our search room. Please note that you cannot use this database to search for individual names within a church register.

Use the options below to find detailed information about Church of England parish registers and the non-conformist registers, including records from the historic county of Durham, parishes in Durham and (part of) Ripon diocese, and the present County Durham and Darlington area. See location maps and identify references/indexes which are available in our Search Room, before making a visit or enquiry.

Enter at least one search option to begin. Alternatively you can browse a list of parish names.

Not sure where to start? See our search tips or search place names to discover the corresponding Church of England parish(es) for a County Durham town, settlement or place, at any given date.
