Teachers Notes
Sensitive Issues
As this unit deals with colonialisation and the treatment of Indians by the British, it may require delicate handling, depending on the ethnic composition of your class.
Age of Pupils
This unit was designed for Key Stage 2, but there is nothing to stop pupils of other Key Stages working on the material.
Curriculum Links
This unit is ideal for adding a cross curricular element to a study of 'The Secret Garden' by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and this is originally how the project was delivered by Lynsey Stoker, class teacher at Wolsingham Primary School, who worked with the Record Office to develop this resource. For further details, you can download a PDF of the Medium term plan written by Lynsey when she used these materials with her class.
