Durham County Record Office: the official archive service for County Durham and Darlington

School workshops

We welcome visits from school groups and many teachers have found our workshops a fantastic way to introduce archives to their class. Whatever the age group, the session will be geared to make our fascinating records as interesting as accessible as possible.

Our workshops are listed by Key Stage, but most can be adapted for other age groups. Or give us a call to arrange something completely new. All workshops are tailored to your specific needs and requirements. Simply contact us for a friendly chat about what we can offer.

We deliver sessions both at the Record Office or at school and most sessions can be delivered in either setting. Record Office visits are great because the children get the chance to see our strongrooms, which is always a powerful experience. However, we understand that this isn't always possible and our archivist is happy to come to you.

The cost will be £100 for half a day of workshops, whether at the Record Office or at school. Within this time, we can deliver the same workshop to different classes, different workshops to different classes or work with smaller groups according to your requirements and the age and ability of your children. The length of sessions can be altered to fit your needs. Condensed 1 hour sessions are also available.
