Durham County Record Office: the official archive service for County Durham and Darlington

Early Years Archive Resource Boxes

Designed in partnership with a local nursery teacher as part of a Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) funded project, these boxes contain all you could want to introduce younger children to archives: replica objects, related story books and, of course, laminated copies of related photos!

Toys Box

Toy Box

These toys are a real mixture! Some are Edwardian, others are toys that the children's parents or grandparents may have played with. Highlights include: wooden hobby horses; a jack in the box and a spinning top. The archive resource pack includes photographs from the same periods, as well as Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum links and suggested activities.

Families and Clothes Box

Clothes Box

The Edwardian costumes in this box are complemented by costumes that grandparents may recognise. There are also objects, such as an Edwardian 'baby', that tie into the families theme. The archive resource pack includes photographs showing Edwardian children and families, as well as EYFS curriculum links and suggested activities.
