Durham County Record Office: the official archive service for County Durham and Darlington

Local Authority Records

This leaflet contains details of those local authorities (excluding education and poor law authorities) which existed in County Durham in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries before 1974. The dates between which the authority existed are noted, followed by the DRO catalogue reference(s) for that authority. Brief details are given of the creation, abolition and any major changes to the authority, and the dates of the surviving records are summarised.
