Also includes the detailed views of the Quarterly Meeting, October 1835, concerning the proposed Literary and Theological Institution for the Education of Junior Preachers, Such a project would be 'pregnant with consequences' and is viewed with 'great anxiety and alarm'. 'This meeting cannot but feel concerned lest in the event of the establishment of any Institution the circumstance of so great a number of young men being associated together should materially injure if not destroy their simplicity and piety... besides this Meeting cannot but entertain serious fears lest in the place of the laborious and pious ministry of the present day a race of men should spring up amongst us - Stiff and formal in their manners, pedantic in their public ministrations, and altogether unsuitable to the active and useful character of Wesleyan Methodism ...' This is signed by members of the meeting which also recorded 'its unqualified approbation of Wesleyan Methodism, believing it to be perfectly scriptural, and admirably adapted to accomplish the diffusion of Christianity throughout the world and pledges itself to maintain inviolate the entire economy of Methodism and to promote in every possible way the glorious object it contemplates'
