Pipe Organ Perfection: Harrison & Harrison at Hawthorn Terrace

by Owen Woods

Thursday 16 November, 6.30pm-8.00pm

Harrison & Harrison organ works, Durham city (D/Ha 94/1)

Owen Woods is an organ builder at the well-known Durham firm, Harrison & Harrison, founded in 1861, whose archives have been preserved in Durham County Record Office for over 50 years. Owen will tell the stories of some of the organs built by company founder Thomas Harrison, and his sons Arthur and Harry.

Harrisons make and restore pipe organs. They are perhaps best known for such large-scale organs as those in King's College Cambridge, Westminster Abbey, and St Mary Redcliffe. They also build smaller organs for churches, halls and private houses throughout Britain and abroad.
