Our programme of 'Third Thursday Talks' offers fascinating new insights into the archive collections at Durham County Record Office. Presented by local archivists and guest speakers, this is your opportunity to hear experts sharing their discoveries about the archive collections they know and love.

The Hackworth Brothers

A Timothy Hackworth locomotive built at Shildon in 1827 (D/Loco 4/6)
 Timothy Hackworth, the steam locomotive engineer who lived in Shildon, is well known, but his younger brother Thomas much less so. This talk looks at them both.

And the bride wore...

A look at some of the wonderful wedding photos in the archives, from the Victorian period onwards. Focusing on the dresses (of course!) and changing fashions, this talk will also introduce some of the stories behind the photographs.
