Archive Service Accreditation award

Excellent news - we are now a fully accredited archive service

On 24 July 2018 Durham County Record Office became a fully Accredited Archive Service under the national assessment scheme introduced in 2013.

The accreditation scheme is supported by a partnership of the Archives and Records Association (UK), Archives and Records Council Wales, National Records of Scotland, Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, Scottish Council on Archives, The National Archives; and the Welsh Government through its Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales division.

Archive Service Accreditation is the UK quality standard for all areas of archive service delivery.

It defines good practice and agreed standards for archive services across the UK, thereby encouraging and supporting the development of the archive service.

Achieving accredited status demonstrates that Durham County Record Office has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of its unique collections and what the service offers to its entire range of users.

We are delighted to announce this award, reflecting the commitment of Durham County Council and Record Office staff to the delivery of a quality archive service for the people of County Durham.
