Durham County Record Office: the official archive service for County Durham and Darlington

Branching Out: The Durham Light Infantry Archive

Two chances to catch our next family history course on Thursday 25 April

Branching Out: What else is in the archives? The Durham Light Infantry Archive

The Durham Light Infantry (DLI) Archive was transferred to the Record Office in 1998 and has become one of our most popular collections.

Alongside the original regimental records, there are thousands of photographs, diaries and letters by individual soldiers recording their own personal stories.

This talk looks at the highlights of this collection, including the story of Jimmy Durham, a Sudanese boy adopted by the DLI in the 1880s.

Branching Out courses are designed to help you continue your family history quest.

Where: Durham County Record Office, County Hall, Durham DH1 5UL
