Durham County Record Office: the official archive service for County Durham and Darlington

Free Ancestry access for Durham Library users

Home access during the current crisis for those with Durham Library membership

We're pleased to announce that Ancestry have enabled home access to the Library Edition during the current crisis for those with Durham Library membership.

If you have a Durham library card, you can access Ancestry using Library Online. If you haven't used Library Online before, you only need to enter your surname and library card number.

Once inside, click on 'eLibrary' along the top. Ancestry Library Edition is listed on the left hand side.

If you do not currently have a library card you can join online and use the temporary number you will be given.

We believe this is an offer that Ancestry have extended to all their institutional subscribers, so if you hold a card for another local authority, it may well be worth checking to see if you can access the offer through their online reference service.
