A new history centre for County Durham, phase 3 consultation

We've recently been awarded planning permission to restore and extend the Grade II listed Mount Oswald Manor House for the history centre. This is an important milestone for the project and we're now one step closer to creating an exciting place where the full story of County Durham will be told through our historic records, photographs and objects. The Durham Register Office will also be based at Mount Oswald Manor House, making it truly a place where history will continue to be made.

We hope to start on site next year with a view to opening to the public in 2023.
You can visit our new dedicated webpage www.durham.gov.uk/historycentre for more information on this exciting project.

You can also visit www.durham.gov.uk/consultation for details of how you can share your views with us, including signing up for some online group discussions on the project. The consultation runs until 25 October 2020
