Durham County Record Office: the official archive service for County Durham and Darlington

Search room closure

Service changes from January 2022 as we prepare for the move to the new history centre at Mount Oswald, Durham

From January 2022, the Record Office search room will temporarily close to visitors to allow staff to begin packing its extensive collection of records, in anticipation of a move to a new state-of-the-art history centre in 2023.

Throughout the preparation for the move, the public will be able to access expert advice and guidance from our archivists and specialists.

We will continue to respond to public enquiries by email and process online requests, as well as delivering our education programmes, online history talks and courses, and digitisation projects.
