Frequently Asked Questions

Divorce

Where will I find information about divorce records?

You will find information about divorce records and where to look for them on the website of The National Archives.
For legal proof of a divorce in an English or Welsh court, from 1858 to the present, you should contact the Principal Registry of the Family Division.

You may also find details of divorces reported in local newspapers. You will find brief details of our newspaper holdings in a list of records of genealogical interest on microfilm and more details in catalogues which can be searched online.
