You must make an appointment to consult documents or microfilms in the Record Office. The number of places available is limited and an appointment ensures that a microfilm reader or table space will be available.
As we are very busy at present, we recommend that you
make an appointment at least two weeks in advance. You must book a
Microfilm Reader in order to look at
:
- Church of England parish registers
- Non-conformist church registers
- Cemetery and Crematoria records
- Census returns, 1841-1901
- Electoral registers
- Newspapers
- War diaries
- Quarter Sessions order books
- Land tax returns
To consult all other material in the Office, you must book a Table Space. If you wish to use the Record Office on Wednesday evenings you must make a separate booking for either a table space or a microfilm reader. Documents for use on a Wednesday evening must be ordered by 2pm of that day.
You may be able to use your own digital camera, for a fee. Ask staff for details. Please note that you cannot take photographs of Ordnance Survey plans, tithe plans, archive photographs, or microfilms
You can make an appointment now by completing our Appointment Booking Form. We will e-mail you to confirm the booking. Alternatively you can also telephone or write to us to make a booking. Please see our 'Contact Us' page for details of our address and telephone number.
