About this unit
The Tudor Durham unit was developed as a result of a project funded by the Museums Libraries and Archives Council (MLA)'s Strategic Commissioning programme. Durham County Record Office worked in partnership with Beamish Museum, Silver Tree Primary School, Ushaw Moor; Stanhope Barrington CE Primary School, Stanhope; and Bullion Lane Primary School, Chester-le-Street.
The project included pre and post visit outreach sessions at each school by Dawn Layland, Education Archivist at the Record Office, and Catherine Rice, Learning Co-ordinator at Beamish. Each school also visited the Record Office, where they created characters using archives. They then took on these characters when they visited Beamish.
This web unit is based on the resources used in these sessions and visits. It is designed to complement visits to the Record Office and/or Beamish Museum, or to be used separately as part of your own teaching.
